Continue making clothes as a rebellion against society - YOHJI YAMAMOTO

Today I will introduce Yohji Yamamoto. I think most Japanese probably know him. He has been presenting his collections in Paris since 1981 and is a front line legend. And now, a 'YOHJI YAMAMOTO' boom is taking place, especially among the younger generation. He was successful in fashion contests such as the Soen Award and the Endo Award while still in college. The basic of his design is to spit out questions and disagreements about social trends. Coolly speaking, he's an outlaw. This time I would like to introduce what his clothes design means.

In this following paragraph I will introduce two things. First one, he shows a rebellious spirit towards society in clothes. Another one is differences in origin for both men's and women's ideas.
① When he started this job, he decided to walk a side street instead of a fashion trendy boulevard. It is his creation to scream and spit out questions and opposite opinions about the flow of society. As an artist, he has something that can never be reached by just beautiful words and expressions. He tells us something about it means clothes and fashion.

② I think fashion designers have a hard time making clothes for the opposite sex. How does he come up with ideas for this challenge? First of all, men don't understand the feeling of women, but rather the comfort of wearing them. So he suggests to women, ''How about these clothes?''. His theme is to want women to be 'woman' forever. There is a desire to be a 'woman' even if she has the title of wife or mother. Men's clothing is like ''Let's wear this!!''. He has a friendly style when it cames to the same sex.

He values not only his own opinions. He also values the opinions of the other. I think that's the inspiration for his clothes.
