A woman who fought against the times - Coco Chanel

Today, I will introduce Coco Chanel. I think anyone knows her. She was the founder of ''CHANEL'', which is still active. She was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France. She has been active as a fashion designer since the beginning of the 20th century. She remained a representative fashion designer until her death. Her design was in line with the time when women were advancing into society. It had a great influence on the fashion style of the world. For exmple, she introduced jersey fabrics to women's clothing and a suit that combines convenience and fashion in everyday life. In addition to women's clothing, she also designed jewelry, handbags, and perfumes.

Coco Chanel has made many innovations in women's fashion. Nowdays, all of them have become the ''style'' that is commonplace. So today, I will introduce about her two style innovations. First is Jersey material, Second is brand perfume.

① Jersey material - Chanel was the first to incorporate jersey, which was a men's underwear material into fashion. Until then, it was standard to use high-quality materials such as silk and satin. But due to the war, it become difficult to obtain high-quality materials. Jersey material is cheap and easy to wear, so it has come to be accepted by customers.

② Brand perfum - In 1921, Chanel N｡5 was born as the first perfume intentionally using artificial synthetic fragrances. Her rival Paul Poiret was the first to make the brand's original perfume. But he didn't put his name on the brand name because he wasn't capable of  mass production. Meanwhile, Coco Chanel put her name on N｡5 and spread her name to new market. Now that 100 years have passed, it is not uncommon for perfums to be more profitable than apparel.

Nowdays, all of them are taken for granted. I think both are innovations created by Coco Chanel. Her invention enriches our daily lives. So we should respect and thank her.
